My Experience
Trevor Bavage (63) has lived in Northwest Leeds for 39 years. He worked as a teacher all that time in inner City schools in Leeds and has taught in almost all the High Schools in the constituency. He is a keen scientist and believes that man-made climate change is a clear and present danger to all mankind and that only socialist measures can make any progress to preventing environmental catastrophe. He sees Parliament working as a corrupt Edwardian non-gentleman’s club that is past its sell-by-date and argues that our system of Government is in need of thorough democratic reconstruction by the working people of this country.
Trevor says, “For to long the rich have plundered the public purse and the three main capitalist parties are in a coalition to make us all pay through cuts to services, wages, pensions, democratic rights and freedoms. The capitalist parties continue to believe in the failed policies of privatisation, freedom for the rich, and an authoritarian state to control the rest of us. Trevor has long history of political, trade union and community activism and was proud to be Secretary of Leeds Coalition against the War. He believes that future wars are on the agenda of the mainstream parties. These wars are for scarce resources, declining markets, military bases and geopolitical control of the Middle East oilfields. Our society is being militarised and all our freedoms, democratic rights and local democracy are being rapidly undermined.
He is a keen Leeds United supporter and attends matches regularly. Trevor says that football has been damaged by greed, corruption, stupidity and the influence of capital. He loves the Yorkshire countryside and enjoys walking ,fishing and gardening.
Trevor is married with three daughters who went to local schools in Weetwood and Headingley. He resigned from the Labour party in 2005.
