My Experience
Roger Hamer is an experienced Birmingham City Councillor who has close ties with the Birmingham Edgbaston Constituency. He is a former Governor at Woodhouse Junior & Infant School in Quinton which all his three children attended. His son now attends Four Dwellings School and his younger daughter attends King Edwards Five Ways in Bartley Green. His older daughter attended Lordswood Girls School in Harborne.
Roger has a passionate commitment to the environment, he works for a national environmental charity and believes we need to take more action now to decarbonise the economy and reduce our demand on the world's scarce resources if we want to leave a planet fit for our children and grandchildren to live in. One vital area in Birmingham is to invest heavily improving the energy efficiency of our housing stock. This will create jobs in a non inflationary way, will cut carbon emissions and reduce fuel poverty. The Government's plans in this area have been far to timid. Roger is also very concerned about the erosion of civil liberties in our society. Big Government thinks it can solve all our problems and that restrictions on our freedoms are valid if they will help Government do what it wants. Roger's view is that this process damages society. The Identity Card scheme, extensions on the length of time people can be detained without trial and the growing amount of personal data the public sector is allowed to hold are all very damaging to our freedom and must be reversed. Roger has served on Birmingham City Council for 7 years and has the experience, passion and policies needed to fight for the interests of Edgbaston's residents in Parliament.ExperienceSales Manager for Albright & Wilson Ltd 1988-96 Deputy Regional Director, Business in the Community (West Midlands) 1996-2001 Team Leader in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister 2001-03 Head of Fundraising & Development for Groundwork UK 2003 - nowParliamentary Experience1997, Birmingham Sparkbrook and Small Heath 2005, Birmingham Hall GreenInterestsTravel, CricketMembershipsAmnesty International, National TrustContact MeEmail: rogerharmer1@aol.comAddress:- 71 Oak Farm Road
