Yes, totally agree that there is a 'disconnect' between consituents and MP's - probably amongst the 40% of the population who didn't vote at the last election. Of the 60% who did vote though, only 39% voted Labour so the current Govt only represents 24% of the population - and even then, doesn't always carry out their wishes (Iraq War).
There is definitely a problem of disconnect between elected MPs and their constituents. Most voters cannot name their MP. The Hansard Society have a good report on MPs online and other issues at http://hansardsociety.org.uk/blogs/eDemocracy/
