Education:Barrister - called to the Bar in 2000 after completing the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law. Undertook Post-Graduate Diploma in Law (1999) City University. Studied History and French at University College London and Paris IV Sorbonne (1994-98). A-levels and GCSEs at local Cockermouth School, Cockermouth, Cumbria.

Biography

Julia has been involved with the Liberal Democrats since she worked for Sarah Ludford MEP in 2001, as a parliamentary assistant focusing on justice and home affairs policy. She has a background in law and is a non-practising Barrister. She took up law after completing a degree in History and French at University College London. She currently works for the Law Society of England and Wales.  She divides her time between Brussels where she works and the East Midlands where she lives with her partner Bill.  Julia grew up in the Lake District, attending her local school in Cockermouth, Cumbria for both GCSEs and A-levels. Julia is delighted to have been selected as Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Gedling. She decided to get involved in this General Election in order to fight for a fairer society, safer communities, equal opportunities in education and employment and to improve the representation and involvement of women in politics.  She is excited to work with the committed team of local councillors and activists in Gedling.  Julia will demand improved policing and crime prevention to ensure people in Gedling feel safe on the streets and in their homes. Julia will fight to tackle proposed cuts that will affect elderly care services in Gedling.  She will work to ensure a reliable and effective local transport service for all in the area and the retention of waste recycling centres locally. Having attended excellent primary and comprehensive schools herself Julia wants to secure this opportunity for all and put in place the Liberal Democrat pupil premium committment to ensure all children have a fair start in life. Julia enjoys history, swimming, walking, and socialising with family and friends.
