Biography

Howard has lived in the constituency for 20 years and is delighted to have been chosen to represent the Liberal Democrats for the Thirsk and Malton. He has a record of campaigning on everything from flood defences to improved sports provision and protection of local hospital services.Howard spearheaded a successful bid that led to the provision of a £9.5 million flood defence scheme for Malton, Norton and Old Malton. And he continues to fight for defences to safeguard homes and businesses in our villages and towns such as Thirsk, Pickering and Filey. Howard has worked hard improve sports facilities in the area, including the provision of £1.5 million to build a sports centre in Malton. He is a strong advocate of local services for local people and uses his role as a district councillor to fight for affordable housing. Howard has always championed free university education, even though his own path was straight from school into journalism. With a daughter just started at university in 2009, knows how hard it is for students facing massive debts when they leave.Howard is leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Ryedale District Council and sits on the council’s Planning and Community Services committees.He has spent more than 30 years working in journalism and public relations and is now a freelance communications manager. His strong background in the media has helped him campaign on many fronts to support the local community. Howard is married to fellow district councillor Dinah and has three teenage daughters.Contact Me
