My Priorities

1.Raise taxes drastically for the mega-rich ,which would include Mr Cameron and many of his comrades, and increase the highest rate to 70% of income over £100000 p.a. Capital gains tax should be at a prpoer level to discourage speculators, many of them in essentials for other people's lives, such as housing.VAT should go, and Socialist Labour wants direct taxation, not indirect taxes.

2. Out of Europe, which is basically a capitalists' club, with little input from the working people of Europe. In fact, banking/finance has become the way Europe imposes its rule.

3.Withdraw all troops from war-zones , including , I have no doubt, a few SAS etc who operate in areas which are completely out of the news; we need to break our long tradition of kow-towing to the USA, which has , of course, different national interests from ours. In the same way, it is outrageous that Israel has been able persistently to ignore world opinion, as expressed through countless UN rsolutions, but with the support of the US and , in general , the UK. Israel's national interests are, again, NOT ours, and the country has recently been described by the Turkish PM as the main threat to peace in the Middle East.

4. With proper taxation of the Big Money, we could raise the minimum wage to £10/ hr.-and, as our name says, we would proceed to nationalise the major industries, rail, public utilities and - why not ?- banks. The tax-payer today is helping maintain the bankers' bonuses through governemtn money put into "saving" the banks. Tha is, our money is finding its way to the Big Money Boys.

My Experience

One-time member of "Old Labour", I have rarely stood for elected office, although was a union representative in Australia, where I grew up. I believe I could have been a candidate for New Labour at some stage, but felt, and feel, that this would have been a betrayal.

Questions I have been asked

Hi there David! My name is Jack Barker. I am a third year media art student at the university of Plymouth, amateur film maker and supporter of the Socialist Labour Party.I am writing to you with a proposition for a project I would like to use for my final year. In my opinion, one of the main problems with the party is that it does little to appeal to younger voters. Naturally, older generations who may have grown up with a less corrupt labour party will feel inclined to sway towards socialist labour now that new labour has turned it's back on the working class. However, in the current political climate, there is a lot of support to be gained from young people, like myself, either at university struggling with increasingly high fees, or going into first time work, struggling to pay rent in the notoriously expensive south west. What I would like to do is create a short documentary highlighting this problems from a young persons perspective, highlighting socialist labour as more than just a third party, but as a perfectly reachable solution to these troubles. I would like to , if possible, have you highlight the messages you would like to put across to young people, and while in production of the film, bein contact with you, allowing youto have a large creative input into the project. One Complete, the project will air in the University, local film events etc, and hopefully rally up some support for socialist labour amongst young people in plymouth. It would be wonderful to hear back from you asap, as I may have to consider other projects. I feel especially passionate about this idea, however, and if you would consider helping me, I promise I will not let you down.Eager to hear back,Jack Barker.weeblsdonkey@hotmail.com
