Would your party renew funding for the Trident missiles program? Liberal Democrats - 18th Jun, 2009 We would not renew funding for the Trident missile programme. Nick Clegg recently commented: "New leadership in Russia, new leadership obviously in the White House and a wider geostrategic appreciation means that a cold war missile system designed to penetrate Soviet defences and land in Moscow and St Petersburg at any time, in any weather, from any location anywhere round the planet, is not our foremost security challenge now. We have got to be grown-up and honest about it. Given that we need to ask ourselves big questions about what our priorities are, we have arrived at the view that a like-for-like Trident replacement is not the right thing to do." |

Does your party agree that it should be made a criminal offence to pay for sex? Liberal Democrats - 17th Dec, 2008 The Government's recent proposals for criminalising paying for sex with woman 'controlled for another's gain' are a misguided attempt to tackle human trafficking. Help for the victims would be more convincing if the Government hadn’t slashed the budget for human trafficking investigations recently and shut down the leading unit. The proposal to close brothels runs the risk of driving already vulnerable women underground and into the hands of pimps and pushers. |
