How would your party tackle the credit crunch? United Kingdom Independence Party - 19th Dec, 2008 It is a measure of the extreme detachment of the European Union that at this time when all member states are facing severe economic difficulties, they continue to insist on rules that make life even harder for the economy to recover, for instance, statutory employment rights for temporary workers and the removal of opt-outs from the working time directive. Labour has excelled in wasting resources on creating new jobs paid for by the treasury. We need to curb treasury spending by starving it as the recession deepens. |

Won't Green Tax proposals just mean higher bills for poorer families? United Kingdom Independence Party - 19th Dec, 2008 UKIP is strongly opposed to "green taxes" masquerading as beneficial to the environment when the primary aim is to raise revenues for the Exchequer. We believe that many green claims are myths. However, UKIP is clear about the need to reduce pollution in general and to conserve and enhance the natural environment thorugh increased investment in nuclear energy. |

What is the answer to the West Lothian Question? United Kingdom Independence Party - 19th Dec, 2008 · A solution to the "West Lothian Question" by creating four national assemblies including a new English Parliament in Westminster, but replacing all national level politicians with Westminster MPs – MSPs with MPs etc – meeting one week a month nationally. There would be English departments and an English First Minister. |

United Kingdom Independence Party - 19th Dec, 2008 UKIP proposes an increase in nuclear power generation to provide 50% or more of our growing electricity needs within 10-15 years. UKIP would allow acceleration of the planning process by Acts of Parliament where new reactors replaced old reactors on the same sites. The party also supports the efficient extraction and use of indigenous coal using new technology such as the clean coal power generation plant. |

Does the UK need a new consitution? If so, what would your party propose? United Kingdom Independence Party - 17th Dec, 2008 UKIP propose a new constitution that will involve: 1) A major move to direct democracy with referenda for all major national or local issues of concern. 2) Create four national assemblies including a new English Parliament in Westminster. 3) A reformed "House of Lords and Senators" introducing 200 elected "Lord Senators", with strict quality criteria. 4) A move to Alternative Vote AV) voting systems for all elections. 5)Part of the Crown Estates to be moved to the monarchy, to end annual state support. |
